When I was leader of the Council, I introduced the now famous ‘Merton Rule’, which has been widely copied and won national awards, requiring renewable energy in new non-residential buildings. But, as an environmental lawyer, I know we can do far more about climate change in Merton. Recycling should be much higher and we could produce renewable energy from waste food, surplus wood chips from parks, and the Wandle.
My Priorities:
-More recycling
-Greater support for green energy
-Much greater support for carbon reductions
